Meet Trustee Cayla Millsap
Cayla Millsap is stepping into her fourth year on the Lander County School District Board of Trustees, currently serving as the board’s clerk. Born in Fallon and raised in Battle Mountain, Cayla is a proud alum of Battle Mountain High School, class of 2006. She pursued nursing at UNR and GBC, and today she works in long-term care and with the local hospice agency, Agape. A devoted mom to two sons, Jaeden and Aidyn, Cayla knows firsthand the importance of community, resilience, and showing up when it matters most.
“I always told myself that when my son Aidyn was old enough to be in school and a position was open on the board, I would run. That is exactly what I did,” Cayla says. Her drive is simple: she wants to help shape the schools her family calls home and make sure students get the support, guidance, and opportunities they deserve. She’s proud to be the voice for people who might be too shy or intimidated to speak up, always digging into the facts, asking the tough questions, and standing firm on her convictions. For Cayla, student success doesn’t happen without teacher support, and she is a fierce advocate for happy, supported teachers who can give their best every day. Her guiding philosophy? “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”
Outside of board meetings, Cayla is all about family, books, camping, and honoring her roots at her father’s memorial site at Baumann Ranch. She’s passionate, blunt when needed, and unapologetically committed to the students, teachers, and families of LCSD. Her message to the community is clear: she shows up, she listens, and she works tirelessly for the people she serves.
"I would like to share that I take pride in my position on this board. I have from the very beginning. I am trusted by a lot of people with a lot of things and opinions. I do my best to help anyone who asks me for it when it comes to LCSD. I pride myself in showing up for my son and his teachers, as well as the whole staff. I want everyone to know that I am here for you all, all the time, and I thank you all for allowing me to serve you on this board."
